The South East Asia Jungle Track, a $62 million renovation program funded through Auckland Council's long-term planning, is the largest project in Auckland Zoo's 100-year history. Along with the lake and wetlands, this track, one-fifth of the zoo, features lowland habitat for tigers and otters, high-canopy primates.Habitat for orangutans and siamangs, and a swamp forest habitat for Sunda gharial (crocodile) and Southeast Asian fish species. Highly immersive for animals and people, and unique in Aotearoa and globally, the project aimed to providing the best care for animals and bringing animals together to inspire zoo visitors to create a deeper connection with nature and inspire love and care for wildlife and each other.
Key Project Features:
lush animal habitats with aerial walkways and tree-inspired canopy climbers; All equipment is adapted to orangutan and siamang biomechanics and behavioral needs.
