CLIENT NAME: Auckland Council
PROJECT VALUE: $11.7m
LOCATION: Quay St, Auckland
COMPLETION DATE: April 2019
Reconstruction of Auckland's historic indoor public pool, The Tepid Baths, built in 1914 on the previous site of a small drydock. The project was scheduled to be completed in time for the centenary celebrations.
The biggest challenge was to construct a completely new building inside the original external walls which were buttressed and retained for their heritage value. The project also had a number of complex services, and stringent quality requirements for the mostly tiled interior finishes.
extra interesting
The pool was originally heated via hot water from the nearby Tramways Power Plant, and the system was considered an engineering masterpiece of the time.
